Bike Friendly Dóing Space
CLIENT: Pavilhão do Conhecimento - Ciência Viva (Lisbon Science Museum)LOCATION: Parque das Nações, Lisbon
REQUIREMENTS: To promote the use of the bicycle and to offer correct and safe parking to the visitors of this museum of science.
SOLUTION: Surrounded by two cycle paths (Parque das Nações West and East) the Pavilhão do Conhecimento - Ciência Viva, launched the challenge for the creation of a parking space for bicycles near the entrance that, at the same time, encouraged the collaborators and visitors to use this clean and healthy means transportation.
After cross-checking and analysing the information, the implementation for the site was “found”. It was decided to opt for one of the ends of the Museum, next to the West bicycle lane.
In this way the first public Bike Friendly space in Lisbon with Covered Parking and an UrbanFIX Self-Service Workstation, with tools and air pump, were installed for the use of all the visitors, not only of the museum but also of that area of the city.
To make the place even more appealing and informative the walls of the space were decorated with graphic elements that distinguish it as “Biker-Friendly”.
Secure Parking for the Lisbon Oceanarium
CLIENT: Lisbon OceanariumLOCALIZAÇÃO: Parque das Nações, Lisbon
REQUIREMENTS: Prevent bicycle theft and promote the use of the bicycle as a means of sustainable and healthy transportation.
SOLUTION: The visitors to the Oceanarium, who travelled by bicycle (and there are many who do it), were confronted with a parking system that was not adapted to bicycles and was very insecure. Many were the thefts of bicycles that occurred in that area where they had to be parked.
After analysing the location and type of parking available, Biciway developed an innovative system that would prevent theft, but that would also occupy the area with minimal interference with the visitors’ circulation and the least visual impact possible.
Bicycle lockers were set up to store the visitors bicycles. These lockers are an innovative solution developed and patented by Biciway and consist of triangular modules that allow you to store one bicycle each. Biciway along with Oceanário, taking advantage of the space next to the exit opted for a solution in which with 7 lockers manage to create an aesthetically appealing semi-circle and to take advantage of a hidden area, adding value and security for who visits it.
Since they were implemented, no more theft occurred.
Almeida Cidades Amuralhadas Mountain Biking Center
CLIENT: Municipality of AlmeidaLOCATION: Almeida (Portugal) and Ciudad Rodrigo (Spain)
REQUIREMENTS: Development of a MTB Center and Pedestrian Paths as well as creation of safe bicycle parking spaces in the city.
SOLUTION: BICIWAY participated from the beginning in an ambitious cross-border project carried out by the Municipality of Almeida and the City Council of Ciudad Rodrigo.
The GR80-BTT was designed to be a homologated route, following the good practices and rules of the Hiking Federations in Portugal and Spain as well as the Portuguese Cycling Federation.
To this end, after several planning and brainstorming meetings, more than 800 pieces of signage specific to Hiking and Mountain Biking were been produced by BICIWAY that guide the users along the 110km of the course. In addition to the signage, 3 BICItrails information panels were also implemented, which allow downloading of the routes for electronic devices, such as smartphones, GPS or cycling computers.
This project that initially would only be for one MTB Center evolved to unite the routes of the Almeida Mountain Bike Center, Vilar Formoso Mountain Bike Center and the Ciudad Rodrigo Mountain Bike Center in Spain. In total there were more than 500km of signposted trails and paths, as well as the development of various valences to make these structures even more user-friendly. To this end, bicycle repair and washing stations have been installed to provide visitors with a better experience.
